I just spent quite a lot of time delving into the history of the #AudemarsPiguet #RoyalOakOffshore, and deepened my appreciation for this legendary status symbol! I knew the #watch was oversized and bold contrast but didn't truly appreciate how daring and groundbreaking it was back in 1993, nor how it lead the way in the use of rubber elements (exemplified by this Rubber-Clad 2003 example) mixed with haute #horology finishing and complications. Very pleased with myself today. I visited CeX and somebody had traded in a ‘Grade A’ Alpine Loop Strap in orange. (When I bought my Ultra I went for the green Alpine Loop to minimise delivery time).
I've wanted the Orange strap for ages but didn’t want to pay Apple £100 for it. So…. a Grade A strap (with box) for £52 was just too tempting. :)

It’s gonna be interesting to see the reactions to watchOS 10. The watch is the most “personal” device we have in that it is attached to our body the entire time we use it. There are a LOT of muscle-memory actions that change in the new system.

The introduction of widgets is, I think, going to be a big win but it moved lots of stuff to different buttons and gestures. Plus, I had JUST gotten my “dock” configured the way I liked it, and now the dock is gone — eaten by widgets.

Bought a new Apple Watch band from Bellroy and had to get a watchmaker to add two more holes to it! Even now, it's snug. Design flaw there, given there's plenty of space for more holes in the original design.

Anyway the watchmaker is Bob Shao, in a tiny cubicle off Russell Street, and he only charged me $5. Recommended.

I do enjoy a good wristwatch, and my latest pickup was the "Mission to Jupiter" variant of the Omega/Swatch MoonSwatch when I finally came across one at retail on a trip to London! The stock strap came off straight away in favour of a plain black one, but I thought having something matching the orange of the chrono hands would be nice, and this Skylab-inspired velcro strap is aligned in theme and colour!

Today’s #watch is the Wyze 47mm smart watch. Purchased solely because it was dirt cheap, it’s barely more than a watch-sized Fitbit. It works well as a pedometer and can measure pulses. Face choices are limited and a bit strange, but it has a nice photo option. Texts and other alerts are available on it.

My go-to mid watch, when I want to track fitness without all the data firehose that is my Apple Watch.

It’s telling me it is time to move. Mastodon is caught up, so I’m off to sweat a bit.

i am absolutely in LOVE with cheap #Casio watches. i bought a W-59 recently and it has all the features i could ever want from a #watch. crisp LCD display, accurate timekeeping, clear beep tones, and dirt cheap. it's basically the same as the more famous F-91W, but with better water resistance. it's my only watch, but perhaps one day i'll start a collection of them...

I bought my Timex #watch from the men’s section at Target about a year ago because it has big numbers, 24-hour markings, lights up, is water resistant, and was only $25 (so no big deal if I destroy it).

The canvas band was getting really gross so I ordered new ones from Timex to replace the one I need to wash. They were $18 each, but fit perfectly. Now I can make my cheap watch look different just by changing the band but it’ll still feel familiar and cosy.

Just found out about Watchy, an #OpenSource eInk hackable #watch. As someone still wearing their #Pebble Time, I'm intrigued, but will likely wait to see if a color eInk version is ever released.

I was just recently gifted this Pebble Time Steel by a friend who can't use it anymore with their Apple devices.

After my last boost I thought I'd see if I could find a photo of the Sony Walkman I had in the #1980s. No. And that's with Google and Bing with numerous search terms. Considered looking for 80s Argos or Littlewoods catalogues scans but maybe later. What I did discover, though, is that there were a hell of a lot of Walkman designs in that decade.

That then made me think about the #Swatch #watch I used to have. I did find a photo of that, and it was called the Soto, apparently. Loved that thing.

My original F-7 from 1981. I wore this every day for years. Went in the sea with it, everything. After the screen broke, I still wore it for another year. Only when the strap broke, did I have to retire it.

If I can replace the strap, then it's going right back on my wrist 👍❤️

#Apple #Watch timer trick that I recently discovered. I use named timers a ton for cooking, especially for stuff on the grill that I have to flip. When the timer goes off but you need a minute to run to the grill and don’t want it buzzing on your wrist, you can cover your watch with your hand it will stop the buzzing but leave the UI in place. Makes it easy to restart the timer with the same interval and not deal with the haptic while you wait

I absolutely do not need another watch - have a DW5600 - but I really like the idea of syncing time with my phone instead of the radio clocks - I only get sync travelling in europe/uk. Might get one if there is a bezel that appeals to me.

Just to log my thoughts from our AD visit today:
- The Speedmaster is a pretty dainty little watch. The bracelet is just wow.
- The Aqua Terra dial is stunning.
- The Tudor dive #watch was a bit underwhelming. Disappointed that the bezel doesn’t align perfectly at that price point either.
- A mechanical watch without a display case back means you’re missing out (unless I guess it’s a diver).
- I’m appreciating the details and finish of my Orient dive watch all the more for how little it cost me.

Black on black Nixon watch is another of my favorites. With a bulky strap, and I love how the white second hand pops against the black face.

If I could design watches for a living, I would start with this template❤️⌚
