#MapCrunch19 zoomed in for a scene I found more pleasing. 1/8 sheet SW rough.

I always used to do full paintings on 1/4 sheet and everything else on 1/16 or even 1/32. I seem to have adopted 1/8 sheet recently. Just enough room for some freedom, not too big that it requires that extra effort.

I’m also happier with my new green mixes now.

@ianjago thank you Ian. Here’s the full #watercolor. Standing has the same effect as sitting, but I’m able to do both for longer periods. You are exactly right about the mindset. Hopefully soon I can go back into that meditative state as I paint.

This #WaterColor has vexed me for months. It was the last major success I had before our daughter died of cancer and I stopped painting for two years. I couldn’t bear to try to make anything beautiful when filled with so much sorrow. While I still grieve I’ve begun painting again, but I’ve lost momentum and am slowly regaining my skill. It’s been a hard journey with many failed attempts. Last night I solved two problems and have a better handle on how I painted this. But I’m still

I’ve lifted and repainted the lower dark area. It may not look massively different in the photo, but the painting is a lot more pleasing.

Getting the colour mixes right for shadows is something I really need to improve. Just when I thought I was improving, I take a step in the wrong direction.

Calling Ukraine was very enjoyable & I do recommend it. It follows a 40-something American man who takes a job in Ukraine teaching a group of call center employees to speak in a more Americanized manner/fashion when speaking with American clientele over the phone. It follows his/their progress, & also their backstories.

I have concluded:
- I do not always let my washes dry 100% (limited painting time)
- I paint very wet (doesn’t help the above)
- I much prefer to paint in one session, otherwise my head isn’t in the game
- I do not have finesse mixing my paints and often end up with too much paint mixed
- when I add shadows or darks, I go from too weak to too dark (see point above)

Self critique is great, not knowing what to do about it less so.

Suggestions welcome!

I now find such torsos of rose beetles in my garden. I have observed that the sparrows try to crack them. This does not always seem to be crowned with immediate success. That's why the birds leave them as they are for the time being and continue to work on them after a while. The bugs are beautiful. That's why I tried to capture their metallic sheen in a painterly way. Original on the right side:

I wanted to keep this loose and free. I’m not well-practiced at vehicles. I tried a van with a trailer and a row of indistinguishable vehicles - more indistinguishable than vehicles! 🤣 It was fun and more brush miles 😀

#Introduction time! I go by Zalcoti all over the internet so you may have stumbled upon me before.

As a perpetually curious individual, my interests are pretty wide. It often filters into my artwork. It ranges from video game characters to nature to the sciences to science fiction and #fantasy.

My tools are just as diverse. Alcohol #markers, #ColoredPencils, #acrylic, #watercolor, #Krita, #Blender and #Inkscape are the main staples.

There's also a #SciFi graphic novel in the works.

I don’t take on very many commissions, but a local wanted to take a gift to a friend in Finland, Sika the Marten and that sounded like a lot of fun.
