#Cycling home today was fun. The first bit #storm designated #StormCiaran is here and so the #rain was heavy with a south-easterly #wind gusting to about 50 km/h. Luckily, I’d packed my #waterproof #overtrousers and so I didn’t get too wet except around my ankles, wrists and a bit down the back of my neck.

And lets be honest:

The light string specs says that it's "suitable for wet locations". It still works, so I guess it's kinda waterproof. Water resilient?

I'll have to draw a line on the side of the bulb with a Sharpie and see if the level changes over time.

Giving the old #Nikon AW1 a wash.

Haven't really used it in a while, as the Olympus TG-6 I bought for underwater photos does almost as nice photos (except in low light), has a neat macro mode and is much, much smaller, so it fits in my manpurse, while this one wants to be hauled around in its own camera bag.

Not a bad camera though. And as you can see, it can handle a bit of #CruisingLife. Apart from the chromed strap attachment points, that is. Shame Nikon abandoned it.

I have even heard some interesting rumours from the Korean Institute for Archaeology & Environment recently. Apparently at some dig site they've discovered a type of portable device capable of being waterproof without the use of primitive methods we use now such as glue. It instead utilised a series of interlocking plastic and rubber bits that insulated against water. It is believed this hybrid design allowed ancient Koreans to swap out consumable components, such as the battery, without risking breaking their device, and at much reduced environmental and financial cost. The device has the words "three stars" written on the front and back, but authorities remain puzzled as to the supposed meaning of the inscription.

After further analysis, it is alleged that said device was also xapable of controlling other devices we still use today, by utilising infrared radiation.

I am very excited what rediscovering these long-lost technologies means for the future of innovation.

Yesterday was #rainy and #windy and today, as forecast, it was rainier and windier with gusts of up to 90 km/h. #Cycling home as the #rain came down in curtained layers wasn’t as bad as it could have been as the wind had a positive component to help my direction of travel. #Waterproof clothing kept most of the water out. It’s very mild for #January at present.

I usually enjoy #cycling in the #rain but today, in addition to a persistent precipitation, there was a blustery #wind #gusting up to about 70 km/h from the #south. There were a couple of moments on my ride home where I felt a little unsafe and unstable in the saddle at higher speeds. On a side note, I ought to add that #waterproof #overtrousers are an absolutely brilliant invention.
