#webPlatform
Are there any #WebPlatform native solutions for pinch-to-zoom on images for use in a <dialog> lightbox? Feels like there should be.
I've tried using an <iframe> to see if it could be independently zoomable, but the whole viewport zooms.
Failing that, might have to resort to #JavaScript, if anyone has recommendations of clean, performant libraries?
I'm away in Poland for literally one week and come back to find new #webplatform capabilities: apparently `@starting-style` is now a thing 😍

I talked about Baseline on the Smashing podcast https://www.smashingmagazine.com/2023/05/smashing-podcast-episode-61/ #webdev #WebPlatform #Baseline
Can't wait to see wider support of View Transitions.
The burden of Single Page Apps isn't worth it just for more seamless page transitions.
This API lets you get the best of both worlds.
Whose idea was it to require JavaScript to open <dialog> elements, when you can close them without JavaScript? 🤦♂️
Can't believe this has been in discussion for 5 years https://github.com/whatwg/html/issues/3567
You're invited to our #Adobe Developers Live: Composable Experiences virtual conference Next Tuesday May 23rd, and I'll have the pleasure to briefly explain why we think the Web Platform is Back, in the opening keynote. https://developerevents.adobe.com/events/details/adobe-developer-events-developer-experience-presents-adobe-developers-live-composable-experiences/ #webplatform
Today I learned you can build your own custom form elements which will validate/serialize upon submission, just like native HTML inputs [1]
Support for the ElementInternals interface landed in Chrome & Firefox years ago, and finally in the latest Safari (16.4) but there's a polyfill if you need backwards compatibility [2]

Baseline... this could be interesting 👀
A Web platform standard to ensure your code will run on various browsers, browser engines, etc.
It seems similar to the VFX Platform.

Exciting times for Web Developers!
With WebAssembly, practically any kind of program can be brought to the browser. The web is the platform for the future.

A somewhat epic New to the Web Platform post this month, with a pile of new things landing in browsers https://web.dev/web-platform-03-2023/ #WebPlatform #WebDev
The video recording (in French) of my "VanillaJS & the Web Platform, a match made in heaven?" talk at Very Tech Trip is now online, https://grep.codeconsult.ch/2023/03/29/vanilla-js-web-platform/

It's such a huge failure of the #webStandards bodies that slippy maps are STILL not a standardized part of the #webPlatform.
If #Google actually wanted to advance the #openWeb they'd standardize #googleMaps, but I'm certain they don't want to give up that #monopoly.
Everyone has JavaScript, right? Well, maybe not, or not always - https://www.kryogenix.org/code/browser/everyonehasjs.html #webplatform #javascript
Slides of my Web Platform talk of today 4pm at #verytechtrip are available at https://www.slideshare.net/bdelacretaz/vanillajs-the-web-platform-a-match-made-in-heaven - come in for the Real Thing, but it's a full house already apparently. It's an introductory talk, so no rocket science in there! #webplatform
If French strikes let me through I'll be at #verytechtrip in Paris this Thursday to present on the Web Platform. Is it really good enough now to forget about Web App Frameworks? In many cases I think the answer is yes. https://www.verytechtrip.com/ - https://blog.developer.adobe.com/the-web-platform-is-back-fa5752fabdfc #webplatform #webcomponents

#blog the Web Platform is Back! https://blog.developer.adobe.com/the-web-platform-is-back-fa5752fabdfc - I'm hoping to make this the first of a series on the topic of going back to simplicity and avoiding extra baggage in websites and Web applications. #webplatform
Did you know you can cancel an event listener with AbortController?
A little intro since I haven’t really been on here since 2017. I’m Stephanie, I’m a web designer turned #developer experiences product manager. I love working on the #webplatform and building developer tools. I run https://webwewant.fyi and will be spending more time next year to reignite it.

This article provides a great in-depth introduction to DOM Observers and the IntersectionObserver specifically, including examples and ready-to-use code: https://www.smashingmagazine.com/2018/01/deferring-lazy-loading-intersection-observer-api/
Based on that, I was able to add lazy-loading for images in Sharesome in less than an hour: https://github.com/skddc/sharesome/commit/911d9c6b1cd86598074300e0165c6e7760d0dc2e
