Congrats to the WGA for reaching a tentative agreement with the AMPTP. #wgastrong https://www.wgacontract2023.org/announcements/negotiations-update-tentative-agreement
Meanwhile, the #SAGAFTRAStrike continues.
While I'm hoping that #VFX can get back to work soon, I'm 100% pro-union.
A tentative deal has been reached between writers and streamers!!! 🥳🥳🥳
So happy for such an incredibly deserving community of people who do so much for the rest of us. I’m just grateful and celebrate with them for a historic deal that will change the lives of many, and benefit future writers as well.
#WGA seem to have reached a tentative agreement for a new collective contract.
Here's the message, shared on twitter by Adam Conover (of "Adam Ruins Everything"):
"We did it. We have a tentative deal.
Over the coming days, we'll discuss and vote on it, together, as a democratic union. But today, I want to thank every single WGA member, and every fellow worker who stood with us in solidarity. You made this possible. Thank you. #WGAStrong
The Writers' Guild has reached a tentative agreement with Hollywood producers, hoping SAG-AFTRA will get one soon.
“It’s an historic offer…”
Means: pay level from 1983.
“The pay is competitive…”
Means: the lowest possible level of pay.
"Best and final offer..."
Means: they want people to trade a good deal for a fast one.
Did you know that the CEO of General Motors, Mary T. Barra, is also on the board of The Walt Disney Company?
They are, and the UAW are quite literally up against the same people SAG-AFTRA and WGA are up against. Their fight is our fight.
Maybe concentrating wealth and power in only a few hands was a bad idea.
Shaene Siders: Got 2 minutes? In July, Warner Brothers & Cartoon Network production workers filed to unionize! Warner Brothers will evaluate support via public petition. Please sign & encourage voluntary recognition of the union! Studios say they are presenting their "final offer" to the #wga today.
since the writers can continue to strike if the offer is poor, the studios may have to come back with "final_offer_v03_final" or "final_offer_v04_final_locked_really"
p.s. this is why I always use version numbers only, and never call something "final" until approved by all parties.
Cautious optimism on possible end of Hollywood strikes, as 3 consecutive days of negotiations between Writers+Artists and Studios+Streamers+Executives will continue for 4th day on Saturday (today)
I have to scratch my head when I read that WGA and AMPTP finally decide it's time to get together and they start meetings at 11am and finish at 8pm.
Really? Something more important to do in the mornings? I mean, no one's waiting on results or anything.
I get it if the deal is so bad to not talk, but if you're talking, wouldn't you want to be talking a lot? Constantly passing items to lawyers and such?
My friend wrote an article about AI at work in entertainment, and it's just been published by Data Driven Investor on @medium. It's a glimpse into how artificial intelligence and the workplace impact #film and #animation in Asia, and the world.

I have some of my strike shirt designs here:
And I also got to help with the WGA StrikeShirts available here (these are also union printed):
All net proceeds go to the Entertainment Community Fund to support those impacted by the strikes.
ICYMI, the WGA and AMPTP are back at the negotiating table for the third straight day. Sounds like progress is being made, although no word on how close they are to a deal.
Here's hoping the writers get most (if not all!) they're asking for!
The paths to meaningful safeguards around AI include new laws (legislative), actual agreements (contractual) and the courts (judicial), at least. Having all deals be fair for everyone on all sides, with safety, consent and compensation secured for all sides, is the real way forward.

The process continues. Continuing is good.
This year we set the tone, next year we bring it home.
That AMPTP and WGA talked today is good, and none of this is over until a new contract is in place for both striking unions. And then a new contract in place for IATSE and Teamsters next year. This year we set the tone, next year we bring it home.

Many accounts online posting anti-strike and anti-union comments tonight in many platforms. These are all being paid for.
Remember the press may not have the story on what’s really happened, happening or happens next. Keep an eye out for official union messages.

Progress as they’ll be talking tomorrow. Won’t be easy to be patient as they do and we don’t know what’s what until something happens.
Remember any rumors are just that rumors and nothing good comes from taking rumor as real.
I hope the AMPTP take this seriously, earnestly seek a resolution in good faith and keep talking.
Have donated my proceeds through August from my strike designs on Threadless to The Entertainment Community Fund to support those impacted by the actor and writer strikes.

Warner Brothers Discovery CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels (annual compensation ~$7.4M) wrote their doctoral dissertation on buyer trust, and conspicuously didn’t clarify in a public comments this week if canceling popular shows builds trust for Max subscriptions—because it doesn't.

Drew Barrymore and ‘The Talk’ postpone their daytime talk shows until after the Hollywood Strikes - AP News
Instead, Neumann is saying, "We Need To Get Back To Work, That’s What We Are Focused On."
Such a transparent falsehood.
Totally plausible phone conversation. 😝
And an article also by Clara about #Barrymore’s willful error:
Ya know how I know the studios/streamers/networks can’t wait out the strikers?
A major studio just switched a huge planned TV series into a movie, which will cost them less money to make than a series would have. One of their most valuable franchises: getting cost cut because the studios are hurting, badly.
A major streamer had nothing new to offer the entire US on the last big holiday weekend.

Happy #LaborDayWeekend to everyone except the greedy jerks who don't pay people a living wage
HAPPY LABOR DAY
My muse, Lucy Parsons, always spoke truth to power.
Today is the line in the sand.
Four months on strike and counting. Fair demands still not met.
An industry in increasing pain.
And the AMPTP still in denial.
Union members are ready to take the gloves off if negotiations don’t move forward positively from here.
They know what they’re doing is wrong. $DIS people know Iger is doing damage, and bad things. If you work there, find the courage and push back. Shareholders, fire him.
If you're pro-union, Bob Iget & David Zaslav should be fired: failing shareholders by refusing to deal & treat workers fairly.
If you're anti-union, Bob Iger & David Zaslav should be fired: failing shareholders since VFX artists are now organizing a union.
Shareholders: fire the CEOs.
After 14 days of striking, you can get unemployment benefits as striking worker in New York (so far the only state that gives unemployment to strikers).

Step 1: Be the AMPTP and decide the problem with paying your employees properly is a PR problem.
Step 2: Decide to hire The Levinson Group as your third PR firm to help with crisis PR.
Step 3: Have The Levinson Group's other clients reconsider whether or not to be clients of The Levinson Group anymore.
Everything the AMPTP touches withers. They need to stop with the foolish and give the unions what the unions asked for.
