Wild Bergamot (Monarda fistulosa) or bee balm is a native North American #wildflower and a honey #plant.

Monarda species have historically been used as #medicinal plants. Today Wild Bergamot is sometimes used in #teas, as an herb, and/or as a garnish.

Species definition is a little fuzzy with the various Monarda #flowers.

This patch produced #blooms in mid-#May this year, a little #early.

My favorite #wildflower is #FirePink. It pops up disturbed areas, along woodland trails and after burns (thus its name) in deciduous forests. It is endangered in certain areas.

Its chief pollinator is the Ruby-Throated Hummingbird.

Can’t miss the bright red/crimson/scarlet color of the 5-point star flower. Saw this one on a recent trip to the "Blue Ridge" mountains, in #BlowingRockNC. It has been seen all the way up in Canada.

Each of the red petals of this flower end in two sharp points. There are also two small points on each side of the petal about halfway between the connection to the stalk and the tip. There is a black center and about four slender white reproductive structures jutting out from that center.

Dandelions have not been historically considered to be weed. It was the modern invention of a curated green grass lawn which replaces this useful beneficial plant out of favor. Dandelions are famous for its beauty and have inspired artists around the world. Every part of the dandelion is edible. They have been used for traditional medicine for thousand of years. Immigrants brought the dandelion to the Americas for that purpose. Dandelions are more nutritional than most plants we consume.

This beautiful flower is a master of survival. No wonder so many wish upon it.

#BackInMyDay, everyone’s front yard was watered and mowed grass plus juniper bushes.

Now, it’s wonderful to see drought tolerant native #wildflower #gardens. These gardens are full of bumblebees, butterflies and birds.

Got a couple days of rain, the air quality is finally up to “good” again, and our little #wildflower patch was FULL of #bees today.

There were the usual extra plush guys I see in the area (in this pic) and a type I’ve never seen before with lil red butts (couldn’t get a good pic, but based on this link I think maybe Fuzzy-horned bumble bees: https://www.nps.gov/articles/000/upload/Bees-of-Alaska.pdf).

Great blue lobelia (Lobelia siphilitica) is a #native #wildflower where I live & can be found on many of the trails I inhabit. I added it to my #garden this yr. Though low to the ground, it's already a very large plant & I've a feeling it's going to be a bit of a monster next yr. It sends up many spike inflorescences w/ beautiful "true blue" flowers so I'm looking forward to that 👍.
