I received some advice a number of years ago that I want to share with you.
When you want to date someone and they reject you, thank them.
You don't need to do verbally, but thank them for helping you not waste your time pursuing them.
I've learned to apply this to many areas of my life. Don't try to appeal to those who don't like you, it will only waste your energy. Just do/be your best self and let those who appreciate you come along for the ride.

I was shocked/entertained by the story of dissertations being thrown away and then rescued after dumpster images went viral this week. But in #ReadingTheComments, I can't get one out of my head:
"Libraries can't afford to be warehouses that store books that no one ever reads!"
Someone actually thought typing those words and broadcasting them to the world would make them look wise, that they were offering valuable criticism with their take. ๐คฆCapitalism is so pervasively engrained in westerners that we cannot imagine rare books existing without being profitable! I will tell you, besides going to far off places and accessing interesting environments, finding valuable information in a rare source is a very close second place in ranking why I love being a professor!

I got a surprise today when I received my new ID badge and discovered my #beard has grown much longer and the white hair has become quite prominent.
