I was sitting on my back porch this afternoon, when this fellow showed up to cheer me up: a black throated green warbler. I have a few resident Northern Flickers in my yard. This woodpecker eats mostly bugs such as ants. You can identify a male from the red cheek markings.

At the studio I go to we are having a raffle for mugs. This is my entry. Funds go toward the program that got me into pottery, called Re-Fire. The programme is for people who suffer with mental health problems, to be introduced to the joy of clay. It has helped me a lot. I'm glad to be able to repay a little of that.

I rarely get to see these woodpeckers out in the open like this. I got lucky to see this one as I pulled into the local park.

This was a first, I walked past Woody's home today and he was in! What a stunning bird this is. Male and female Great Spotted Woodpeckers look similar, but males have the red patch at the back of their heads.

Woodpeckers are amazing, they can literally walk straight up a tree. This is an excellent shot of a red bellied woodpecker. The bird showed up right in front of me yesterday while Charlie and I were sitting outside.
