A big, old beech, which splits into two thick trunks halfway up. The ground immediately beneath it is clear but it is surrounded by a circle of slender trees. Everything is in full leaf, bright green, and the sky behind is bright and blue.

Went out to the MacCready Reserve to get my #druid on yesterday-- I'm guessing MSU must be studying the effects of controlled burns? The shift from green to black was very abrupt.

Lots of Mayapples on the trail as well as Andersonglossum, wild comfry which has simple, five petaled flowers. Very pretty evening bird song including: summer tanager, northern parula, and red-eyed vireo.

One of my favourite old beech trees in Barna Woods, Galway

A bare old beech tree on a gently sloped clearing in the woods. Its trunk is hollow, with an opening like a tall, narrow inverted V. The lower trunk is patched with moss. There are a few large mossy rocks resting on the carpet of dead brown leaves at the base of the tree. A pale sky is visible through the many upper branches. Behind the tree, along the perimeter of the clearing, is a row of younger, greener trees.

This shot was on my way down one of the back roads of the Upper Peninsula. Idea was to combine this shot with a shot from just the moon. I still might try to rip the sky out and replace it with a clear sky at one point.
