Windows 95 crashed all the time. Windows 98 was the stable version of it, but you still needed a driver to do basic things like use a USB, explaining the reverence for XP.
In 2023 my biggest trouble with #XP is the rustic magnification feature for small fixed system fonts. Modern browsers are over, but I don't browse in #Windows anyway.

Why I write test first No 526: I am a bear of very little brain. We spent half an hour chasing down a bug that came from not actually serializing and deserializing a data object. It worked for the case of default values.
Until we parameterized the tests to cover all possible inputs, we couldn't see the pattern.

Raczej nie jest przeznaczony dla początkujących w zwinnym projektowaniu oprogramowania, ale dla tych, którzy nie do końca czują czym jest Scrum, a czym Kanban - już tak. Autor skupił się na esencji, najważniejszych technikach, ale też np. skalowaniu.

I had a good #Agile Tech class today, practicing Object Calisthenics. They were implementing Noughts and Crosses, and they started off desperate to get at implantation details, like the grid, in their tests. But they soon got the hang of testing behaviour in order to drive the design instead :) And I learnt that Noughts and Crosses is called Morpion in French!

@swaggboi I used to have a small laptop with a USB-attached drive that I kept my crap on. I accessed all my crap with samba (because I did keep an #XP client around) and that allowed me to connect my rpi media player devices (or any device capable of running Kodi) to the share as well. I never pulled descriptions from IMDB, instead I wrote my own .nfo files with descriptions and thumbnails for all my movies. Yeah, you heard me, I have made close to 500 .nfo files (most of which are for westerns). LAWL
The collection still lives on a USB drive but is now attached to my laptop at home and without an XP box in sight I now just access it via sshfs. When I am "out in the woods" I am pretty low-tech though. I just fill up a couple of SD cards with movies and play 'em on a tablet. :-)

My rebuttal boils down to this: Does the lack of XP among businesses really mean it's less effective? Or are there other reasons it hasn't spread?

Pair programming was one of the brilliant ideas that #xp was pushing, but at the expense of reality.
I've done a lot of pair programming and let me tell you: it's a social activity amongst people who are stereotypically anti-social.
One developer always bored their "pair" to sleep. Another one refused to use deodorant. Yet another fought tooth and nail every proposed change.
Pair programming is amazing when it works. Otherwise, I'd rather rip out my intestines with a fork.

My unpopular opinion: I remember when I was first introduced to #scrum. My first thought was "this is conceptually similar to #xp (extreme programming), but with best practices removed."
Two decades later and my views have evolved considerably, but I still see that projects developed under Scrum often fail, hard, at the technical best practices.
