Even as I work on new photographs, I return to old files to see what I have missed — and there is always something to discover. When I look at photographs long after I made them it seems like I can see them for what they are more than for what I expected them to be. I don’t recall the specific circumstances of making the photograph… and sometimes I don’t remember making it at all!

I love this view of Yosemite Valley. This was captured in late fall along the Merced River. The river is running slow through lack of rain. Because of this the water is smooth and undisturbed just as much of the park is at this time of year.

Merced River Winter

This image was captured from Stoneman Bridge. The snow was falling hard so my plans to shoot Half Dome went out the window.
The Merced River is running cold and still so the reflections of the water surface is a near mirror image. Bridalveil Falls in Autumn

During the early spring and most of the summer Bridalveil Falls flows so hard that you can't get close to the base of the falls without getting soaked.
This image was captured during the fall when all of the other waterfalls in the valley had already dried up.

This is an image of Yosemite Falls in black and white captured from across Yosemite Valley.
The foreground consist of tall pine trees leading up to Lower Yosemite Falls. at the bottom of the frame. The mid section is hidden but moves to the right where the Upper Yosemite Falls can be seen.
This is a winter capture so the water from the falls gets blown against the rocks and freezes against the valley walls.
The valley walls have some snow clinging to them as a storm had recently passed through.

Up The Creek
Yosemite National Park is very large and there are many places in the park that I could say are my favorite part of the park. This is one of those areas.
This small branch of a creek that comes down off the mountain, flows under a small bridge and then flows roughly 100 yards, as seen here, before dropping roughly another 800 feet to the valley floor. This is an image of a small creek found off of Hwy. 120 in Yosemite Valley. It's spring time so the water is rushing strong and hard. In this image the creek drops down 3 distinct levels over the granite boulders.
The creek bed on the right side is primarily granite slabs. The left side shows a mixture of granite and pine trees.

Winter in Yosemite can be a real adventure.
Even though the sun is out it it early and the temperatures dipped greatly overnight. As the day warms much of the beard will melt and the volume of the falls increases.

This is an image of Yosemite Falls during early winters morning.
Captured from across the meadow the foreground of this image consist of a layer of hardwoods. The trees are bare of leaves but glisten with a light layer of frost on the branches.
Further up in the frame the hardwoods transition into pine trees.
The walls of the valley frame the waterfall on the left and right. The sun is shining on the cliff face on the left.
The waterfall is barely flowing due to the cold weather. The water that is flowing is getting blown against the rocks, freezing to the walls of the cliff, creating the beard of Yosemite Falls. Most of the water doesn't make it to the base of the upper section but what does forms a snow cone.

Softwater of Cascade Creek

A few miles off the floor of Yosemite Valley is Cascade Creek. By Yosemite standards, this is just a small whisp of a waterfall.

Bright colorful abstract painting filled with texture and layers in red, orange, yellow, pink and blue titled SKOV (DANISH FOREST). This original abstract was painted using a palette knife and acrylic paint on a very heavy watercolor paper and was so exciting to paint. I love the bold paint colors because when the piece is finished, it makes you really happy. There are lots of layers and textures here and the movement in this modern piece is exciting.
